Have you ever come home to find your furniture has been torn up? If you live in the Conroe area this winter, this may have happened to you. In the last week, we have received dozens of calls concerning Rats nesting in furniture. Rats are notorious for gnawing on wood, whether it be furniture or trees. Though they do this to simply sharpen their teeth, Rats will also chew on the wood because it helps them create nests for themselves.
Rats love to nest in dark places with high ceilings, such as the inside of furniture. Rats will chew through your furniture in search of a warm nest where they can have their babies and feel safe from predators! Making your living room a dangerous place for Rats to nest! Rats do not see very well, so they rely on their whiskers to navigate around obstacles while running at full speed. Rats are also unable to climb head first down surfaces because of how flat their feet are. Rats will chew on the bottom of your furniture in order to create a little hole that they can slip into and chew out until their home is nice and cozy! Rats also love nesting inside of dressers because they are commonly made of wood, allowing the Rats easy access to building materials.
Rats have an excellent sense of touch so they are able to feel their way around your furniture without being able to see. Rats are great at hiding, so you might not even know they are there until you come home and find torn up couches! Rats have become extremely good at living in human homes. Rats will chew on just about anything they can get their little paws on in order to make a home, from furniture to wires!
Rats are also excellent swimmers, which helps them navigate through pipes that connect your home. Rats love to chew on electrical wires because it makes their nests bigger and warmer by allowing the Rats access to the inside of the wire where they can build themselves a little nest! Rats can jump many feet in the air, so they do not need to climb into your cabinets. Rats are also able to squeeze through holes that are just an inch across! Rats will chew through your furniture because it helps them create soft nests for their babies where they feel safe and protected.
What types of Rats Do We See In Conroe?
– Roof Rats, House Mice & Norway Rats
There are three different types of Rats that we commonly see in Conroe. Roof rats, house mice and Norway rats all pose a threat to Conroe residents because they chew through wood in order to make themselves homes!
In Conroe, house mice are the most common type of Rat you will run into because they are not very large and can squeeze themselves through tight spaces. Roof rats are more common in Conroe during the winter season. They love warm weather so you see them all of the time during the summer, but they leave for cooler areas once fall begins!
Norway rats are typically what Conroes Rats nest inside of your furniture. Once a Rat has found somewhere nice and cozy to raise their family, they will keep coming back as long as there is food nearby. Conroe is full of many different types of animals that Rats love to eat, making Conroe an excellent place for Rats!
How Can I Keep Rats out of my Conroe Home?
– Seal any holes in the exterior of your home.
Rats can squeeze themselves through cracks as small as one inch in diameter! Many people think they have sealed their home from Rats, but they are sadly mistaken. If you seal up all of your holes on the exterior of your home but have an open vent on the interior, Rats will simply chew their way through your drywall to get inside of your home.
If you do not want to seal up all of your holes on the exterior of your home, you can set traps inside of the holes in order to catch the Rats.
Setting traps inside of your home for Rats is not very effective because they are typically only in the area for a short period of time and will not be able to find your trap.
It is also important to remember that Rats do not live by themselves, so if you have one Rat you are sure to have many more. Keep your property clean and free of clutter so the Rats do not have anywhere to hide.
